High-Speed Fiber Optic Splicing & Installation Services
In today’s hyper-connected commercial landscape, copper cabling is no longer sufficient for moving massive datasets across large facilities. Efficient Low Voltage Solutions specializes in the design, installation, and certification of high-bandwidth fiber optic networks for enterprise environments, campus infrastructures, and data centers throughout Ohio.
Whether you need a blazing-fast backbone to link multiple telecommunications rooms or outside plant (OSP) fiber to connect completely different buildings on a corporate campus, our BICSI-certified technicians deliver precision engineering and zero-loss connectivity.
Why Upgrade to a Fiber Optic Backbone?
While Cat6A is excellent for horizontal runs to individual desks, fiber optics are the absolute standard for vertical risers and main building backbones. The advantages are undeniable:
- Unlimited Bandwidth: Fiber optic cables use pulses of light instead of electrical signals, easily supporting 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps, 100 Gbps, and beyond.
- Distance: Copper ethernet is strictly limited to 328 feet (100 meters). Single-mode fiber can transmit data across tens of miles without losing signal strength.
- Immunity to Interference: Fiber is made of glass, not metal. It is completely immune to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). You can safely run fiber optics right next to high-voltage industrial machinery or fluorescent lighting without fear of data corruption.
- Security: It is incredibly difficult to “tap” a fiber optic cable without breaking the signal, making it the most secure physical layer for government and financial institutions.
Single-Mode vs. Multi-Mode Fiber
Choosing the right type of fiber dictates your network’s speed and range capabilities. We design systems utilizing both formats based on your specific topology.
Multi-Mode Fiber (OM3, OM4, OM5)
Multi-mode fiber has a wider core (typically 50 microns), allowing multiple light modes to travel simultaneously. It is ideal for high-speed, short-distance runs, such as connecting servers to switches within a data center or linking IDFs (Intermediate Distribution Frames) to the MDF (Main Distribution Frame) within the same building.
Single-Mode Fiber (OS1, OS2)
Single-mode fiber has a tiny core (9 microns) and utilizes powerful lasers to shoot a single beam of light in a straight line. It is used for long-haul transmission, such as campus backbones linking separate buildings miles apart, or bringing ISP service from the street into the building.
Precision Fusion Splicing and OTDR Testing
A fiber optic network is only as fast as its weakest splice. Poor termination leads to massive insertion loss and reflected signals.
At Efficient Low Voltage Solutions, we do not rely on cheap mechanical splices. We utilize state-of-the-art Fusion Splicers (such as those from Fujikura and Sumitomo). This process uses an electrical arc to melt two glass fibers together seamlessly, resulting in a permanent bond with near-zero signal loss.
Once the fiber is spliced and terminated to the patch panels, we perform rigorous Tier 1 and Tier 2 Certification.
- Tier 1 (OLTS): Optical Loss Test Sets verify that the total insertion loss of the link meets IEEE and TIA/EIA standards.
- Tier 2 (OTDR): Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer testing sends a light pulse down the fiber to create a graphical “trace” of the entire cable. This identifies the exact location of any micro-bends, bad splices, or breaks in the glass.
We provide comprehensive PDF reports of all OTDR traces, guaranteeing your fiber infrastructure is flawless before we leave the site.
